Call for abstracts
Second Call:
Dear Colleague,
Research on soft materials including colloids, gels, polymers and
surfactants is growing tremendously to provide a range of
technological solutions. Soft-Matter: Young Investigators Meeting
(SM-YIM) has been a forum for the soft matter community in India to
communicate their recent research and to exchange ideas. To continue
this process, the 3rd annual SMYIM, will be held during 17-20 December
2015 at Hotel Atithi in Pondicherry. We sent out a notification
earlier announcing this event.
Submission of abstracts
SMYIM 2015 organizing committee invites the authors to submit
abstracts for oral or poster presentation. To ensure that the meeting
appeals to a larger audience and addresses the grand challenges in
fundamental research and understanding of various aspects of soft
matter, abstracts are invited under the following topics.
a) Bulk soft matter assemblies (colloids, gels, surfactants and liquid crystals)
b) Nanoparticle and Nanomaterials
c) Polymers, networks and composites
d) Surfaces, interfaces, and interactions
e) Biological aspects of soft matter
Selection
Authors are requested to submit their abstracts by email
[email protected] in one of the above topics, indicating their
preference for oral or poster presentation and citing recent
publication, if any, from their group on this topic. We are planning
to have about 30 oral presentations with sufficient breaks for poster
presentation and discussions. In case we receive more abstracts, oral
presentations will be selected by a peer-review process and priority
will be given to first time presenters in the meeting.
Logistics
Abstract submission opens: 15th July 2015
Abstract submission deadline: 15th September 2015
Notification of accepted abstracts: 15th October 2015
The organizing committee reserves the right to re-categorize any
accepted abstract. The decision of the committee is final.
We look forward to see you in Pondicherry
Thanks

First Call:
Dear Colleague,
The soft-matter community in India has grown tremendously over the
last few years with a large number of scientists working actively in
this area. As a result of this, two meetings were held in Pondicherry,
in a space of two years, which brought together young scientists to
present and exchange ideas under the banner "Soft-Matter: Young
Investigators Meeting (SM-YIM)". These meetings helped nurture
collaborations amongst PhD students, post-doctoral fellows as well as
scientists who have taken up faculty positions in India in the last
few years. Both these meetings have been extremely beneficial in
connecting a rapidly growing interdisciplinary community, from
academia and industry working on colloidal/polymer/granular matter
dynamics, self assembly of mesoscopic structures and the interface of
soft matter and biology. The aim is to learn from each other and to
build collaborations across disciplines in the basic and engineering
sciences.
To continue this process, the 2015 meeting will be held during 17-20
December at Hotel Atithi in Pondicherry.
We invite you to participate in the meeting. By participating, you will :
- get an opportunity to meet other early career soft matter
researchers in the country
- build collaborations and learn about scientists with complementary skills
- learn (about science, and perhaps even tips about dealing with the “system”)
- spend 2.5 days in an informal setting in an atmosphere conducive for
extended discussions
In the spirit of the first two meetings, we hope to maintain this
programme as a self-funded event with a registration fee which will
cover the hotel stay, breakfast, lunch and local transportation. In
the last two years, conferences fees have been approximately Rs
10,000. We expect similar participation fees for this year, though the
exact amount will be indicated by the next announcement. We are
hoping, in addition, to being able to sponsor a small number of senior
Ph.D students, postdocs, and faculty without sources of funding.
All information about the meeting will be available here :
http://www.smyim.in. We will continue to update the website with
further details, whenever available.
Since this meeting will be participatory in nature, we hope you will
circulate this email to all your colleagues who might be interested in
being a part of the soft-matter community.
We will shortly send out the next call, inviting for title/abstracts
for talks, posters etc.
Hoping to see you in Pondicherry.
